It all happened one summer when my dad and brother were off at Huntington Lake at Boy Scout camp. My mom and I sat on the living room floor and she had me sit across from her. I mirrored her movements and picked it up pretty easily. She started with the basics, how to hold the tension, do the basic chain, single crochet and double crochet.
The next thing I knew I was learning the Granny Square. It's one of the easiest blocks to make. My mom also started selling items at craft fairs and typically I sold beaded items but I wanted to make something else. I knew I could make a Granny Square in a small amount of time and started playing around with them.
I took two squares, sewed them together, leaving one of the corners open and folded just one of the corners toward the middle and secured it with a button. It made the perfect note holder especially when you weaved a pen in between the stitches. When I started crocheting again for my shop, my mind went back to these note holders. They are quick and simple to make and I just love them. They can be anywhere from plain to completely wacky.
